2020 Write-a-thon group activities
Everyone needs a break every now and then, so during our Write-a-Thon we hosted a few short group activities throughout the day:
Acrophobia:
Based on the popular internet game from the 90's, we gave participants a random and completely made up acronym and invited them to share what they thought it stood for:
DRE became:
Donut Racing Enterprises
Dressed Ready (for) Evolution
Don’t Read Email
Don’t Remember Elephants
Dynamic Response Exercise
Dreaded Reading Experience
Damn Republican Elephants
Dream, Read, Enjoy
Doing Right by Everyone
Dragging Reasonable Entities
Doctors Reck Everything
Drive Recklessly Everywhere
Don’t Regret… Ellipses
Play some rounds yourself at acrofever.com or acrowars.com.
Collaborative Poetry:
For this activity everyone contributed a couple of lines to create a collaborative poem - the theme was "2020". For the first stanza we asked everyone to write one line in the chat function of our Zoom meeting, and then we all pressed send at the same time.
For stanza 2 we all wrote another line but this line had to start with the last word from one of the lines in stanza 1. Stanza 3 was created the same way. In this completely random method we created this surprisingly cohesive poem:

2020
The introverts felt calm
A wonderful time to pause from busyness for us introverts
Hack into my brain and you will see what is rapidly being lost there
We can no longer say hindsight is 20/20 when it has given us more than enough foresight.
I should not have been surprised, but I was not yet desensitized to surprise
It was the first day of 2020 and I walked into a metal pole… little did I know, that was only the beginning,
Foresight would have been better.
Pandemic isolation leads to Zoom frustration
I am flourishing and doing well
Staggering in its opportunity for growth
It was the worst of times and though it felt like it could not get worse it did
What is hindsight anyway?
The year I became addicted to news
We are an infinitely creative and inspired society.
Anyway, there’s Netflix.
Frustration nation.
There was never a better time to look inward and around
Frustration fell over me, but little did I know about what was ahead
Did I really imagine such astounding flow as this?
News brings us to tears and disbelieving laughter
Growth and innovation will profoundly impact our future
Introverts – follow any social media feed
Beginning a new look on what matters in life with a vision of twenty-twenty
Growth from change and crises, heartbreak to relief
Society has shown its best and its worst
Better is a measure that changes with the moments
News came and came with no pause, no chance to absorb
News came from around the globe.
Feed me no more, they cried!
Relief that brings healing, peace and sometimes even joy.
Feed the soul and mind with shatteringly new experiences, cultivate creativity.
Absorb this – you can have both utopia and dystopia at the same time.
Moments pass without pause, yet time stood still.
Relief, for me, is found in self-reflection.
Nations unite and divide.
Relief fell over me as I went to bed for the night.
Netflix, I love you.
Ahead is a promising world.
Moments become more important than goods,
News is a curse of mingled unrealistic thought patterns.
Feed me sourdough made with stockpiles of flour.
